Mission & Agendas

We started our journey in 2012, in the same year when a part of our society started screaming in fear of major destruction of civilization by an unknown super power. The literate people with nonscientific culture spread rumors and accelerated the scenario. But anyway here we all are, still alive and struggling with a numerous problem related to our personal or social life.

“Uttoran”, the organization working in rural areas of mainly Bankura and its neighbor districts is an endeavor, an initiation to help each other. Truly someone said “I can’t change the world, neither can you. But we can help each other”. This organization is devoted to the same principle. We initiated, worked hard to figure out the problems in society in spite of knowing our limitations. We had no money, no recognition as we were majorly school or college students. But we had principles--principles of morality. Those were all we possessed at the very beginning and we were adamant to stick to those.

While visiting villages we saw hungry faces, jobless hands, children with sack instead of school bag on their back. We saw drought lands waiting for rain, in some places flood digesting lands, disrupting the communication system. Truly speaking many of us have been victimized in this chaos and that is why we decided to join our hands to work for us, to work for the society. In these past years we have fought mainly against illiteracy, but besides that we also organized social awareness programs in several topics. We sponsored several students belonging to poor economic background. We also have started distributing food and blankets to homeless people so that they can have a peaceful sleep in these severe winter days.

Bankura the district in West Bengal with 5th least literacy rate and non-fertile soil has several accounts against its economic and social development. 25% people here belong to scheduled caste or scheduled tribe and 65% people are non-worker. In this situation uncontrolled population growth among scheduled tribes is a severe matter of concern. Uttoran has set its new agendas which are motivated towards development of scheduled tribe population in Bankura and its nearby districts. Hope we will get massive support for this crucial project, even better than what we got before.
